To Tokyo we go...

About a month ago I booked Daniel a ticket to Seoul so we could spend Spring Vacation together and we decided that a trip to Tokyo sounded like a good idea.  Fast forward to Sunday, and there we were!  We left Seoul on Sunday morning and two short hours later we touched down in Narita International Airport.  Being seasoned travelers, we bought ourselves a Suica card (used on the JR and metro lines in Tokyo), hit Starbucks for a quick recharge, and secured two roundtrip tickets on the uber fast Keisei Skyliner, which rocketed us to the Ueno area of the city in less than 45 minutes.  A quick cab ride to the Hotel Villa Fontaine, and we were checked in and ready to....crash!!  Obviously teaching and student-ing (I know, not really a word but it works for blog purposes) are taxing lifestyles and we were exhausted, so we crashed for a few hours before venturing out to explore our neighborhood.

We decided to head to a familiar haunt for dinner--the beloved Hard Rock Cafe!  We retraced our steps to Ueno station and found comfort in loud rock music (sung in English) and American style cuisine.  It must have been a big night for someone at the Hard Rock, because there was a lot of singing, cheering, and drinking.  Daniel was quite amused to see the Japanese staff break out into YMCA:).  After dinner we checked out the rest of the station's main gate and found a bakery filled with yummy pastries for breakfast and a grocery store where we stocked up on supplies like fruit, snacks, and water.

Back at the hotel I got in touch with Chihiro, our Japanese friend who lives in Tokyo, so we could decide how to spend our first full day in the city and was asleep before 10.  Lots to see and do on Monday!
